Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has appointed Steven MacKinnon, previously the Liberal House leader, as the new labour and seniors minister, replacing Seamus O’Regan. MacKinnon acknowledged the party’s current political hurdles but remained confident that they could better highlight their distinct choices to Canadians.

Following his oath-taking ceremony at Rideau Hall, MacKinnon dismissed any rumors of internal party unrest, asserting strong support for Trudeau among Liberal MPs. Trudeau and Governor General Mary Simon were present at the event. O’Regan resigned from his cabinet role for family reasons but will continue serving as a Newfoundland MP until the next federal election.
